Optinats 2005

Notice of Race

The Taipa Sailing Club hosted the 2005 NZIODA Optimist Open Regatta and National Championships (Optinats); held over Easter weekend - 25th to 28th March 2005.

Race Headquarters

The race headquarters were based at the Taipa Area School Multi-Cultural Centre, located just a couple of hundred metres from Taipa Sailing Club clubhouse on the beachfront. This is a relatively new purpose-designed building situated in the grounds of the Taipa Area School and directly opposite one of the North’s most popular beaches. This building has ample provision for briefings, administration and registration, plus separate committee rooms for race results and protest hearings.

The Multi-Cultural Centre was also used as the venue for lunches, barbeques, morning and afternoon teas and the prizegiving. It is large enough to accommodate indoor activities should the weather not be up to its usual high standard. Adjacent to the Multi-Cultural Centre are large playing fields including a safe covered playground for the younger children.

Parking

The area around the Multi-Cultural Centre provided permanent parking for cars, campervans and road trailers. The Optimist fleet, together with their beach trailers and support craft, were housed on the green adjacent to the Taipa Sailing Club. All-night security was provided.

Launching

The Taipa Sailing Club clubhouse facilities and surrounding areas were used as the launch facility for both racing boats and support boats.

Northland Wine and Cheese Tasting

There was a Northland Wine and Cheese tasting evening on Saturday, 26th March, from 5.30pm in the Multi-Cultural Centre.
